The Member of Commission IV, DPR RI, Johan Rosihan, expressed his hope that the development of an integrated modern shrimp pond covering an area of 528.15 hectares in Sumbawa Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, can become a mainstay of the local economy in order to improve the welfare of residents. In a release received in Jakarta on Sunday, Johan Rosihan hoped that "with the development of modern shrimp ponds in Sumbawa, it can improve people's welfare and become a mainstay for regional progress in Sumbawa, NTB." Johan also appreciated the new breakthrough by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, which will enable the development of an integrated shrimp pond in Sumbawa Regency, NTB, which is planned to cover an area of 528.15 hectares with a total of 1,811 ponds. This appreciation, he said, is because this modern shrimp pond is a development model for the development of an integrated shrimp farming area with quality standards including installation, water quality, aquacult UR modern 4.0 and the quality of coastal areas with large-scale cultivation schemes from upstream to downstream in one area.
This politician from the Prosperous Justice Party faction also encourages the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries to continue to assist and commit to increasing the production of shrimp aquaculture ponds in Sumbawa, which so far has only been around 0.6 tons per ha. "I hope that later on the yield of this modern shrimp pond can be quite maximal in Sumbawa, at around 40 tons per hectare per cycle," said Johan. The People's Representative from Sumbawa Island reminded the KKP to give priority to the sustainability index at the location where a modern shrimp pond will be built by integrating all dimensions of ecological, social, legal, economic, institutional, and technological aspects of the coastal area comprehensively as a modeling shrimp estate. Moreover, he continued, Sumbawa's extraordinary potential must be managed with the concept of sustainable fishing development so that the environment remains sustainable and the people become more prosperous.
Johan also reminded the KKP to pay attention to the institutional concept to support the implementation of this modern shrimp pond and strengthen its relationship with the revitalization of people's ponds so that everything is productive. As is known, the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, visited the location of the pilot development of an integrated shrimp farming area in North Moyo District, Sumbawa Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province, on Friday (18/3). The Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries stated that the development of integrated shrimp ponds is to encourage the productivity of people who are still practicing traditional cultivation as well as spur economic growth in the region. This modern shrimp pond area will be equipped with facilities and infrastructure such as a management control center office, laboratory, employee mess, nursery pond, control office, and roads. Meanwhile, the current condition of the pond is irregular in shape, does not have inlet and outlet channels, and does not have reservoirs and wastewater treatment plants (IPAL).
The construction cost was IDR 2.25 trillion. The target is for construction to begin in mid-2022, with an estimated construction time of two years. Through the construction of modern shrimp ponds, KKP has encouraged an increase in the production of traditional aquaculture ponds in Sumbawa from only 0.6 tons per hectare to 40 tons per hectare. In addition, to encourage community and national economic growth with the birth of supporting economic activities, one of which is a feed factory, Minister Trenggono ensured that the pilot development of a modern shrimp pond in Sumbawa prioritizes the principle of environmental sustainability. Among others, the development will not damage the mangroves around the location, but instead planting will be carried out as a green location around the pond, and the pond area is also equipped with water reservoirs and WWTPs.
