Indonesian Ambassador to Tunisia Zuhairi Misrawi explores increasing Indonesian coffee exports by visiting the country's largest coffee company. "I have a special program to explore diplomacy and increase coffee exports in Tunisia. Therefore, I visited one of the largest coffee companies in Tunisia, Bondin," said Zuhairi in a written statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Tunis received in Jakarta, Wednesday (16/3/2022). Indonesian coffee, both robusta, and arabica have penetrated the Middle East market, including Tunisia, he said. He said Bondin, which was founded in 1934, already controls 50% of the coffee market in Tunisia. So far, the company has imported coffee from Brazil, Turkey, Vietnam, Indonesia, Tanzania, Kenya, and several other African countries, said Zuhairi. He said coffee from Indonesia has special features in terms of quality and competitive prices. "If our coffee is able to dominate Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and several other countries, then it's time for us to be more serious and aggressive in introducing and marketing Indonesian coffee.
Bondin is very interested in Nusantara coffee civilization, and wants to import coffee from us," he said. According to Zuhairi, from a procedural point of view, the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) which is being negotiated by the Indonesian and Tunisian Ministries of Trade is being carried out. "I am optimistic that we can carry out diplomacy and increase our coffee exports to Tunisia. The response has been very good. After the completion of the Preferential Trade Agreement, prices can be very competitive with other countries, because the quality of our coffee is better," he said.
