President Joko Widodo has shown his seriousness in the development plan for the Capital of the Archipelago (IKN). He has even invited a number of regional heads to take part in starting development by bringing land and water from their territory. Jakarta, which was once the capital city of the state, will turn into a business city. Then what are the concepts and plans that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will carry out to make it happen? Head of the Jakarta Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda), Nasruddin Djoko Surjono, said that there are six strategic issues that the DKI Provincial Government has prepared to realize the projection of a global-scale business center city. "There are several strategic issues that are of concern to us in preparing the foundation," he said. He explained that the six strategic issues were to support Jakarta as a business center. Because, based on a study by the DKI Provincial Government, the main elements of a global city are population mobility based on public and environmentally-friendly vehicles, improving the quality of health and education facilities, and having productivity competitiveness so that it can attract global talents.
Nasruddin refers to the statement by the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan at the Zero Point Kilometer IKN on Monday (14/3), that the DKI Provincial Government sees the momentum of moving the country's capital city from Jakarta to East Kalimantan as an opportunity to further accelerate development as one of the world's global cities. "We will prepare the foundation for Jakarta to become a global economic city, not only Indonesia's economic center but also an economic center on a global scale," he said.
The six issues are 1. Resilience to disasters; 2. Dynamic governance and transformation of public services; 3. Inclusive economic resilience; 4. A digital and community-based sustainable city; 5. Healthy, competitive, and equal Jakarta people; 6. Equitable development.
Improvements in Service Quality Must Be Followed by
Urban Planning Expert Nirwono Joga said, without the frills as a business city center, Jakarta has actually been known as an Asian-level economic city. However, Jakarta is still required to continue to improve public transportation services. Because according to him, public transportation is an important point if Jakarta becomes the center of the global economy. "Jakarta needs to improve its services as a world business city center, such as the development of modern city infrastructure, a reliable mass transportation system," said Nirwono. Being a business center city also does not automatically rule out solving city problems such as flooding, land subsidence problems, Jakarta's slum settlements. According to Nirwono, the most important thing that also needs to be considered is the wages for workers in the business city center. "A minimum wage that can compete with neighboring countries," he added.
