Teten: Government Fastened 'Booster' to Accelerate National Economic Recovery Program

Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs Teten Masduki said the government continues to accelerate booster vaccination as a strategy to accelerate the effectiveness of the National Economic Recovery (PEN) program so that people can return to normal activities while still implementing health protocols (prokes). This was conveyed in a 1,000-dose mass vaccination event organized by the Indonesian Benteng Mikro Syariah Cooperative (Kopsyah BMI) with the support of the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, as well as the Banten Provincial Health Office in Cikupa, Tangerang, Banten. "It is hoped that the vaccination program can encourage the achievement of the economic growth target in 2022 of 4.7-5.5 percent," he said in a statement received in Jakarta, Tuesday. Citing data from the Ministry of Health, he continued, Indonesia ranks fourth in the world in terms of the number of people who have received vaccine injections after China, India, and the United States (US). In terms of the number of vaccination recipients, the Coordinating Minister stated that Indonesia is already on par with the big countries. "Our vaccinations have matched theirs, it is supported thanks to the vaccinations organized by Kopsyah BMI because the government cannot do it alone. Collaboration must be a shared agenda," he said.

The Coordinating Minister also conveyed a message to stakeholders at the regional level to help ensure that all levels of society take care of the prokes. "If it is endemic, it will be the responsibility of each person in maintaining the health protocol, in addition to the government also providing complete health facilities," said Teten. Furthermore, he said that cooperatives and MSMEs are the backbones of the economy so they need to get priority in administering vaccines. Specifically for cooperatives, he stated that the sector has three main functions, namely business, education, and social activities. "These two things (education and social activities) distinguish cooperatives from corporations. For this reason, the function of cooperatives as education and social activities must continue to be encouraged," said Teten.
