Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries: Prioritize Data in Building Fishery Market Networks

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) emphasizes the Berau Regency Government, East Kalimantan, to prioritize data accuracy to build a fishery market network so that it can always penetrate the global market. "Accurate and real-time data can build trust when conducting searches in market networks," said Researcher at the Brackish Water Cultivation Fisheries Research Institute and Fisheries Extension (BRPBAP3) Dr. Taruna Mulia in a release received in Tanjung Redeb, Sunday. Accuracy and real-time data, he continued, will also be the basis for policymaking in fisheries development, especially tiger shrimp farming in Berau Regency. For that, he said, an integrated system is needed, spatially based and supported by digital technology, so that it can be easily accessed by anyone and from anywhere. Currently, Taruna Mulia said, the production of tiger shrimp by pond farmers in Berau is quite large, reaching 810 tons per year, while the market share is still limited, even though when local demand is met, the excess can be exported.

Meanwhile, Head of the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Service of Berau Regency, Tenteram Rahayu, said that his party was developing a traceability information system for tiger shrimp production to be better known throughout the world so that the public recognizes shrimp production with guaranteed quality and is produced in an environmentally friendly manner. "Besides contributing to the capture fisheries sector, Berau is also known as a barn for tiger shrimp production with a pond area of around 9,000 hectares. From this area, it can produce tiger shrimp from brackish water aquaculture an average of 810 tons per year," said Tenteram. Meanwhile, efforts to develop a network or information system for shrimp production traceability in Berau, had previously been discussed in detail with various parties in a workshop with the theme Development of a Shrimp Production Traceability Information System. The workshop was carried out by the Berau District Fisheries Service and the Archipelago Nature Conservation Foundation (YKAN) and was supported by BRPBAP3 KKP RI, Mulawarman University Samarinda, Muhammadiyah University Berau, and PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur.
