Once Popular in Asia, Majalaya Sarong Craftsmen Are Asked to Strengthen Existence in the Era of Digitalization

Majalaya Sarong Craftsmen, the main product of the textile industry in the Majalaya area, Bandung Regency, West Java (West Java) are expected to continue to strengthen the existence of products in the digitalization era. The Majalaya sarong is said to have been popular throughout Indonesia, as well as several Asian countries. For this reason, the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs (KemenKopUKM) asks the sarong craftsmen who are part of the textile industry to recapture the market potential. The trick is to carry out various innovations so that this sarong product that only exists in Indonesia can be of interest to global consumers. The Deputy Assistant (Asdep) for SME Financing and Investment at the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, Temmy Satya Permana, added that the sarong craftsmen who are under the auspices of the Noesantara MSME Forum (FUN) can initiate so that Majalaya MSME sarong products enter a larger marketplace. "Of course with good quality, meaning that it is comfortable to wear and has many patterns. Just like batik, sarongs are expected to continue to be global," said Temmy in a press release. Currently, KemenKopUKM is also connected with various parties to collaborate with the UMKM Office in districts/cities and provinces. According to him, collaboration is a very important supporting factor. In addition, this sarong textile industry approach is also carried out through a cluster system. Temmy emphasized that a product can be maintained if it is loved by people who like to support it. "The extent to which the Majalaya community itself loves the sarong. Don't dream that the Majalaya sarong can be loved by the wider community and even the world if the people themselves don't wear and love it," added Temmy.

Not only that, the concept of aggregation and quality standardization must always be improved. "So that people who come to Majalaya already have the same quality. In the future, a certified Majalaya sarong will be created," said Temmy. The Majalaya sarong is a product of local creativity that is a source of pride for the people of Majalaya, West Java, and the Indonesian people. The different patterns, motifs, and colors of Sarong's creations have high philosophies that can become local identities and brands. Majalaya sarongs are the result of Majalaya's main textile industry which was popular throughout Indonesia and several Asian countries. There are various variations of the Majalaya poléng sarong, ranging from the sub-district head, hajj poléng, totog poléng, bolégbag poléng, taliktik poléng, to namicalung poléng. Regarding this, the Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs (MenKopUKM) Teten Masduki, the holding of the Majalaya Sarong Festival is a form of cultural appreciation with an attitude of respect for local works and production. "We are proud of sarong products from various regions as the nation's cultural wealth, which is not owned by other countries in the world," said Teten. Sarongs are also one of the creative products that have an attraction to be developed because of the potential of the Indonesian people as producers and consumers. Teten said that this is an opportunity for the global market, which is still very open. This means being able to participate in developing the nation's economy.
On the same occasion, the Head of the West Java Province Cooperative Service, Kusmana Hartadji, hoped that the development of the sarong in Majalaya would make it more well-known both nationally and internationally. "Together with various parties, we have collaborated with Majalaya sarongs to be exhibited in many events facilitated by the SME Cooperative Service and Bandung Regency Trade Industry," said Kusmana. Furthermore, it is also hoped that the Majalaya sarong can continue to be disseminated so that the sarong is appointed with a more general and broad design, accepted by all circles of society. It is known that the festival was also attended by the Head of the West Java Provincial Cooperative Service Kusmana Hartadji, Director of Sharia Economics at Ikopin University, Wawan Lalu Setiawan, and various MSME communities and activists such as HIPMI, the Republic of Bikers Indonesia, as well as textile communities and other arts and traditions.
