The Sabang City Government said that the Sabang Salak commodity will soon get a patent from the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture so that it will become a new economic source for the people of the Pulau Weh region. Mayor of Sabang Nazaruddin, Wednesday, said it was time for salak which has been growing in the Sabang area to be registered as a variety of Salak Sabang, through the Agriculture and Food Service of Sabang City and supported by the UPTD BPSBTPHP of the Aceh Agriculture and Plantation Service (Distanbun). "Along with the registration of the Sabang Salak variety, a residue-free prime certification test is very much needed, and samples of salak fruit will be tested first from residue-free by the UPTD Food Quality and Safety Monitoring Center of the Aceh Food Service," said Nazaruddin. The mayor assesses that agricultural commodities in the Pulau Weh area will revive, along with the registration of the Salak Sabang variety which will soon be issued a patent, as well as the installation of certified labels for peanut seeds and identification of patchouli varieties. He appreciated the Aceh Distanbun, UPTD BPSBTPH Aceh Distanbun, and the Agriculture and Food Service of Sabang City who had tried and tried to revive the agricultural sector in Sabang City. Nazaruddin invites all extension workers and the agricultural and food technical team of Sabang City to convince farmers that there are still many superior commodities in the City of Sabang that can have an economic impact on the community.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Agriculture and Food Service of Sabang City, Fakri, said that currently, Salak Sabang is in the process of taking the final sample, which will then be sent to the Syiah Kuala University Laboratory for examination. "Sample results from several times down to the field, have been sent to Bogor. We made a comparison with salak from Sleman, and the results were 80 percent different, so the hall decided we could patent the salak variety from Sabang," he said. Previously, UPTD BPSBTPH Distanbun Aceh Habiburrahman explained that Salak Sabang was planted in the Balohan area, Sabang City with a land area of about 25 hectares. This salak tree has been planted with thousands of stems of varying ages, between 25-30 years. His party has done a DNA test on Salak Sabang and the results are not the same as the parent seeds from Yogyakarta. Currently, it is in the exploration process and has been established as a Population Parent Clump (RIP). "On average, salak Sabang is aged from 25 years and over to 30 years. The basic seeds are taken from Yogyakarta, Magelang, but we have made it local varieties because it is more than 10 years old, it can be claimed as a local variety, he said.
