Terasi Langsa Potentially Becomes an Export Commodity

Industrial houses that produce shrimp paste in Langsa have turned into small and medium-sized industrial centers, in the future their products have the potential to be developed into export commodities. This was conveyed by a member of the Aceh DPR from the Golkar Party (Golkar) faction, Muhammad Rizky, when he visited the Terasi business factory in Simpang Lhee Village, Langsa, Monday (7/3). Muhammad Rizky said, Langsa shrimp paste products have been marketed to various regions, both locally and nationally. In the future, it must be developed as an export product for the sustainability and economic independence of the community. The steps that can be taken, according to this member of Commission II of the DPRA, are the development of a one product one village development scheme. Currently, there are several gampongs in the West Langsa sub-district, which have been known as the shrimp paste processing industry area. “The shrimp paste from Langsa has now become an icon for Langsa City. For this reason, efforts must be made to develop superior products with increased business value that can be exported," said Muhammad Rizky.

To increase the business level of industry players, it requires research and innovation support, as well as coaching, in order to obtain quality with high standards and quality. “Business actors are currently experiencing problems with raw materials that must be imported from outside the region to the licensing and packaging process. In the future, what the government has done so far must be done with more strategic steps to build a sustainable community economy," he said. With the concept of one product one village and development support in the form of a factory for processing and drying. Rizky believes that the terasi product will be the backbone of Langsa's economy going forward. "I am optimistic about the prospects for this industry to be developed on a large scale, with cooperation and coordination in the development program to increase small and medium industries to compete and produce quality goods," he said. One of the shrimp paste entrepreneurs, Harun said, currently his shrimp paste products have been sent to various regions in Aceh and outside Aceh. In fact, his Tachi Usaha Terasi product, which received the MSME Upgrading Award from the Aceh Government in 2019, has been in demand abroad such as Malaysia.
However, currently there are still obstacles in terms of licensing and product packaging. "Those who are asking for Langsa shrimp paste are now not only in Aceh or in Java, but also abroad. But when we want to apply for a business permit to be exported, it is considered that we still need renovation because the place of business is still very standard," he said. Business actors expect the construction of a smaller factory that is more feasible. As well as better government support, in particular facilitating business actors in obtaining permits. "It is hoped that this terasi product will continue to grow and can become the main source of livelihood for the community," said Harun.
