Maritime Minister Hopes Local Government to Maintain Marine Conservation in North Maluku

Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono requested the local government in North Maluku, together with the community, to continue promoting social movements to preserve the sea in the region. Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono requested the local government in North Maluku, together with the community, to continue promoting social movements to preserve the sea in the region. "Of course, the momentum of the Tomalou Fisherman Village Festival (FKNT) can encourage the fishermen's innovation, productivity, and creativity in looking at the global economy, as well as organizing a campaign for the love of nature to preserve fishery and marine resources in the North Maluku region," said the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries in the opening of FKNT in Tomalou, Tidore Islands City, Monday (7/3/2022). According to him, Indonesia as a maritime country should have the sea as the front page and not the backyard, and it will be an honor for him to attend FKNT activities involving the ranks of the central and local governments. Hence, he asked the local government to carry out a socialization movement to preserve the sea and keep the sea in North Maluku blue.

In the same place, the Governor of North Maluku, Abdul Gani Kasuba, conveyed that the needs for fisheries in North Maluku are relatively the same, starting from fishing, which is a necessity, and of course, supported by adequate facilities for fishermen. He said that the government has never restricted people from catching fish commodities in the sea, because it is a necessity, but various ways to damage marine biota must be avoided. Therefore, the governor for these two periods asked that every FAD in the village and sub-district should be managed properly so that the sea is not polluted and the relevant agencies must carry out supervision and guidance for local fishermen. Meanwhile, the Mayor of Tidore Islands, Capt Ali Ibrahim admitted that the people of Tidore are mostly fishermen, and the central government must give serious attention to economic development in the field of fishery potential.
