Celios: Indonesia Can Attract Investment Amid Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Director of the Center of Economic and Law Studies (Celios) Bhima Yudhistira said Indonesia could take advantage of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine to attract more investment by relocating factories in conflict-affected locations. "Indonesia can attract investment from countries in conflict, for example by relocating steel factories and then several electronics, automotive and automotive spare parts factories," Bhima told Antara in Jakarta, Tuesday. According to him, the government can start approaching producers with production bases in Russia and Ukraine to immediately switch to Indonesia.
The government can also prepare special incentives that can make producers more interested in relocating their factories. In addition, the G20 Presidency of Indonesia can also intervene by inviting countries in conflict, particularly Russia and the United States which support Ukraine, to meet in the G20 forum and discuss conflict resolution. "Indonesia can be a mediator because it has no interest in the conflict in Ukraine. If it can be done, as president of the G20 Indonesia will be considered a success," he said. Meanwhile, in order to maintain domestic stability, with the potential for rising prices of oil and other commodities, according to Bhima, the government needs to start compiling the Revised State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN). "This change in the APBN is to readjust several indicators, especially the rupiah exchange rate and inflation, which could be higher than expected," he said.
