Ministry of Agriculture Supports Sustainable Integrated Livestock Village Program

The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) through the Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health (Ditjen PKH) supports the Integrated Sustainable Livestock Village program implemented by the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Areas (PDT) and Transmigration through Integrated Animal Husbandry Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes). This was conveyed by the Director-General of Livestock and Animal Health at the Ministry of Agriculture's Head Office, Jakarta, Monday (21/2/2022). Nasrullah said that the Integrated Sustainable Livestock Village program was to integrate the programs and activities of Ministries/Agencies, Local Governments, Village Governments, and related partners in the village, especially in the livestock sector. "This collaboration is expected to accelerate the success of national livestock development," said Nasrullah in a press release. He added that this collaboration and synergy were also prioritized to support the acceleration of poverty alleviation, reduction of stunting prevalence, economic recovery, and equitable distribution of regional development and food security.

Meanwhile, the Director of Animal Breeding and Production of the Ministry of Agriculture, Agung Suganda when he was assigned to accompany the Minister of Villages, PDT and Transmigration in Kudus (15/02) said the Integrated Livestock BUMDes became a model for the livestock management system from upstream to downstream. "In the future, villages that have potential in the livestock sector will be developed as meat supply centers, from cows, goats to chickens," said Agung. "The participation and contribution of all parties, the community is the key to the success of this Integrated Sustainable Livestock Village synergy," he added. The pilot project for the Integrated Sustainable Livestock Village Program through BUM Desa Bersama is located in seven districts, namely Bandung, Cirebon, Kebumen, Nganjuk, Jombang, Lumajang and Kudus. Each BUMDes Bersama involves around 5-10 villages in the vicinity. The seven Joint BUMDes which became the pilot project has received training and assistance from the Kemendes PDTT and third parties. Agung said he was optimistic about the potential of livestock owned by one of the districts that became the pilot project, namely the Kudus Regency. According to him, the potential of livestock owned by the Kudus Regency will be able to maintain the availability of animal food in Central Java and its surroundings. "I am optimistic that Kudus has livestock potential for this Integrated Sustainable Livestock Village program," added Agung.

The Regent of Kudus, HM Hartopo expressed his gratitude for the assistance for the construction of the BUM Desa Bersama Rukun Lestari. Hartopo hopes that the BUM Desa Bersama can meet the target of fattening more than 15 kilograms (kg) every month. "BUM Desa Bersama is expected to be an inspiration for other sub-districts with a record of being able to prove performance," he explained. On the same occasion, Minister of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration (Mendes PDTT), Abdul Halim Iskandar (Gus Halim) revealed, the Integrated Livestock Village program is a follow-up to the presidential instruction. It is hoped that some of the village funds will be allocated to increase food security, especially the availability of meat. "The BUMDes here are engaged in breeding and fattening cattle, raising goats and sheep, laying hens, biogas, and organic fertilizers," explained Gus Halim during the inauguration of the BUMDes Together Rukun Lestari at the Integrated Animal Husbandry Complex in Kudus Regency.
