Invite Investors, President Jokowi Guarantees Investment Security in Indonesia

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated his commitment to ensure the security of investment, both foreign and domestic investments in Indonesia. This commitment was conveyed by the Head of State during a speech at the 2022 Mandiri Investment Forum (MIF) themed “Recapturing the Growth Momentum” which was conducted online from the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Wednesday (9/2/2022). “I invite investors to invest in Indonesia. The government guarantees the security of your investments, ladies and gentlemen, who are invested in Indonesia," said President Jokowi.


In front of businessmen from 40 countries who attended the 2022 Mandiri Investment Forum, President Jokowi openly revealed that in the midst of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, international trust in Indonesia continues to increase. This is reflected in a number of economic indicators showing a significant increase, such as the manufacturing Purchasing Manager Index (PMI) as of January 2022 at the level of 53.7, which is in the expansion zone and higher than the Asian PMI at 52.7. investment in 2021 reached IDR 901 trillion or grew 9% year on year (yoy), foreign investment grew 10% yoy to reach IDR 454 trillion, Indonesia's exports increased very high in 2021, which grew 41.9% with a value of USD 232 billion , inflation in January 2022 was 2.18 yoy, and foreign exchange reserves in January 2022 reached USD 141.3 billion.


President Jokowi revealed that various improvements were achieved because the government made structural reforms the key in directing economic policies to increase added value, spur productivity, increase investment and create the widest possible employment opportunities. “This investment recovery momentum must be maintained properly. We will continue to carry out structural reforms, the numbers to create a more conducive investment climate will be continued," he said. Downstream, he continued, will continue to be improved. In addition, the downstream mining products that have been carried out such as nickel will continue to be encouraged for bauxite, copper, and others. "We will also encourage downstreaming to increase the added value domestically and open up more job opportunities for our people," said President Jokowi. The government, said President Jokowi, will also build an ecosystem for the semiconductor industry, which we will start by investing in poly silicon and chip design. "We will also focus on developing a green economy to achieve sustainable economic growth. The green industrial park in North Kalimantan will be the main showcase and important point of Indonesia's economic transformation," he said.
According to President Jokowi, the government will also encourage the importance of implementing environmental, social, and governance in various economic activities. "And, gradually switch to renewable energy sources to realize a green economy," he said.
