Bahlil Aims for IDR 250 Trillion Investment from the G20 Forum

The Ministry of Investment / Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) targets an investment of IDR 250 trillion from the Inauguration forum of the G20 Trade, Investment, and Industry Working Group (TIIWG). In 2022, the government has set a target for investment in Indonesia to reach IDR 1,200 trillion, an increase of IDR 300 trillion from the previous year. "If it's a rough number (investment target), it's not an exact number, in our target we can make a minimum of IDR 200 (trillion)-IDR 250 trillion. But we are still compiling the details," said Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia at the TIIWG G20 Forum in Jakarta, Tuesday (8/2). In addition to tourism, the sector that is currently the focus of the government is the downstream project of natural resources. For example, the coal gasification project into Dimethyl Ether (DME) and methanol as raw material, then the production of electric batteries from nickel.

According to Bahlil, the agenda of the G20 Presidency in Indonesia in October this year can be used as a moment for the government to invite investors from member countries. He emphasized that the government prioritizes sustainable investment to boost the economy. "We must make the G20 a moment. Talking about the economy is not just investment. The government will encourage sustainable, inclusive investment and we must be at the forefront of encouraging green energy," he said. With the nickel project as the raw material for electric batteries, Bahlil claims that Indonesia can become a country that fully supports the clean energy movement as well as supports the non-fossil fuel automotive industry. "There is no country in the world besides Indonesia that processes battery cells from upstream to downstream mines. We must encourage environmentally-friendly investments. Technology may come from abroad, so we must collaborate," he said. In addition, according to him, sustainable investment can also maximize the growth of MSMEs as the backbone of the national economy. Bahlil emphasized that the government will make clean energy one of the main topics at the G20 meeting. "Investments must also be beneficial for entrepreneurs in the region and MSMEs. So the president's direction to us should not be seen from the nominal numbers and which countries enter. But how to empower regional entrepreneurs and MSMEs," he said.
