The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) applies a quota-based measurable catch to boost the economic potential of marine products. The Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said that this step was in the context of implementing the blue economy program which is the direction of development and makes ecology the leader in the development of the marine and fisheries sector. "KKP has implemented a quota-based measurable fishing policy in each fishery processing area for ecological sustainability," said Sakti Wahyu Trenggono at the Business and Investment Forum held by the Maluku Provincial Government in Makassar, Saturday. Sakti said that fishing policy reforms would be integrated in 2022 to boost the economic potential of each region. "Starting in 2022, we are Indonesia, from Sabang to Merauke, so we will divide it into 6 zones," he said.
In the quota-based measured catch by the KKP, it is divided into 6 fishing zones consisting of 4 zones for domestic and foreign investors, as well as 2 special zones for domestic investors. Meanwhile, there is 1 area in zone 3 which is devoted to traditional fishermen as a limited fishing zone. Measurable fishing changes the control input approach into control output and controls with a fishing quota system, so that the utilization of fish resources is in accordance with their carrying capacity.
Meanwhile, the catch quota will be calculated based on a joint study by regional fisheries management organizations. This quota is divided into 3, namely, quotas for investors, quotas for local fishermen and quotas for community habits (hobbies). "Through measured fishing, we want to bring Indonesia's fisheries into a new era that is more advanced, prosperous, just and more sustainable," explained Sakti. For this reason, continued Sakti, support and constructive synergy cooperation are needed so that measurable fishing policies can be integrated as well as possible. "Hopefully what is planned together can provide benefits for the sustainability of the ecosystem, increasing the welfare of Indonesian fishermen," he said
