NTB SMEs Export Sorghum-Based Processed Food

Nur Rahmi Yanti, one of the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara, has succeeded in exporting sorghum-based processed food products to seven countries since the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 until now. "I have started exporting cakes from sorghum as raw material since 2020. Initially, to Singapore, the Netherlands and China as many as 1,000 pieces with a relatively small value, only IDR 20 million," said Nur Rahmi Yanti, in Mataram, Sunday (1/23/2022). Then in 2021, he said, requests came from business partners in Turkey and Dubai (United Arab Emirates). The total export value was IDR 40 million, up 100 percent compared to the previous year. The export market, continued Yanti, will increase again in early 2022. Two of Indonesia's neighboring countries, namely Malaysia and Timor Leste, are the destination for goods shipments worth IDR 700 million. "The export release was held in Santong Village, North Lombok, Saturday (22/1/2022). This is the largest export since I started sending overseas," said Yanti. He admits that he can send his products abroad because there are buyers who come directly to his place. There are also results from online marketing through various internet-based product marketing applications. "I also take advantage of Shopee and offline stores, besides that there are also buyers from abroad who come here directly," said the woman who owns the Yant Shorgum Healthy trademark.

In addition to overseas markets, Yanti also serves business partners from various regions, such as Medan, Pekanbaru, Jakarta, Surabaya, Malang and Bali. In addition to marketing in their own area. Sorghum-based processed food products marketed locally include various types of cakes, sorghum rice, sorghum flour, and sorghum sugar. "I market it to several hotels and restaurants. There are also cake shops and shops selling cake ingredients in Mataram City," he said. With the wider marketing area, he said, the volume of uptake of sorghum from fostered farmers continued to increase from only 5 tons per month to 10 tons per month. Sorghum is purchased from farmers spread over 22 villages in five regencies/cities, namely Mataram City, West Lombok Regency, Central Lombok, North Lombok, and Central Lombok. The purchase price of dry sorghum at the farmer level is IDR 5,000 per kilogram. With such a price, according to Yanti, farmers can earn up to Rp 35 million from the production of eight tons per hectare during the three-month planting period. "The number of my partner farmers is around 1,000 people with a planting area of 500 hectares spread over 22 villages in the five regencies," said Yanti.
