Strengthening Export Performance, This is the Ministry of Industry's Effort

The Ministry of Industry projects the export value of the manufacturing industry to reach US$ 178 billion to US$ 185 billion this year. Several steps are being pursued and continued to improve export performance, including expanding the market to non-traditional destination countries. According to the Statistics Indonesia (BPS) records, manufacturing export performance increased 35.11 percent last year to US$ 177.11 billion from the 2020 achievement of US$ 131.09 billion. Three industrial sectors that still dominate export achievements include food and beverages, basic metals, and the chemical, pharmaceutical, and traditional medicine industries.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Industry, Febri Hendri, said the policies that were being pushed and continued this year were optimizing several programs such as import substitution, increasing the use of domestic products (P3DN), and draining natural resources. The import substitution target of 35 percent is projected to be achieved this year. "This is also supported by measures to strengthen the market, including to non-traditional export destination countries," said Febri to Bisnis, Saturday (22/1/2022). Indonesia's largest non-oil and gas export market shares include ASEAN, the European Union, China, the United States, Japan, and India. In addition, comprehensive economic cooperation and optimization of bilateral and regional trade agreements are also the foundation for improving export performance.

On the other hand, the government also encourages the role of small and medium industries (IKM) through guidance and assistance for market expansion through digital technology. "We also encourage the industry to take advantage of fiscal facilities that support exports, such as government-borne import duties (BMDTP) and ease of import for export destinations (KITE) for SMEs," he continued. Meanwhile, with a shipment value of US$ 177.11 billion last year, the non-oil and gas processing industry remained the largest contributor to national exports at 76.49 percent. Meanwhile, the mining sector contributed US$ 37.92 billion or 16.38 percent, oil and gas US$ 12.28 billion or 5.3 percent, and agriculture US$ 4.24 billion or 1.83 percent.
