Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto: Indonesia Becomes a Catalyst for Global Economic Recovery

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, accompanied President Joko Widodo at the World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Thursday (20/1/2022). Airlangga said that during the meeting, President Jokowi emphasized Indonesia's position that it wants to be a catalyst for global economic recovery while holding the G20 Presidency. "Mr. President conveyed to all friendly countries, Indonesia is trying to be a catalyst for an inclusive global economic recovery. Especially after the Covid-19 pandemic ends," said Airlangga Hartarto, to reporters on Sunday (23/1/2022). The Coordinating Minister for the Economy added that this was done by starting to improve themselves in various sectors during the Covid-19 pandemic that hit Indonesia. For example, the government is carrying out structural reforms in the economic sector, improving the business climate, encouraging the investment ecosystem, facilitating licensing, as well as providing legal certainty and distributing special incentives for priority investment sectors. One of the priority investments that are facilitated in Indonesia during the current pandemic is in the health sector.


According to Airlangga, President Jokowi has conveyed to all WEF participants that the world needs permanent solutions to face health problems. As the holder of the G20 Presidency, Indonesia will fight for strengthening the architecture of the world's health resilience system. The form could be like what the IMF is doing today. Later, this agency will have the task of mobilizing world health resources, among others, for financing world health emergencies, purchasing vaccines, purchasing medicines, and purchasing medical devices. Airlangga said, like the President's message, this agency will also formulate global health protocol standards.


Among other things, arranging cross-border travel, up to standards for implementing health protocols throughout the country. "In the future G20 Presidency, Indonesia assesses that developed countries will not object to supporting this initiative. Because this world health resilience is needed by all countries to face a pandemic that might occur after Covid-19, "said Airlangga.
