Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi signed a Memorandum of Understanding between Intelligent Transport System (ITS) Indonesia and the World Resources Institute (WRI) Indonesia, regarding cooperation in accelerating low-emission transportation policies in Bali Province. The Minister of Transportation appreciated the collaboration of various parties in order to provide support for the electric vehicle ecosystem in Bali towards the holding of the G20 Summit. This activity is the result of collaboration from a number of parties, namely: the Ministry of Transportation, the Provincial Government of Bali, Grab Indonesia, the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) Indonesia, and the World Resources Institute (WRI) Indonesia. ITS Indonesia is a non-profit organization established to encourage initiatives to develop and use smart transportation systems and a convenient transportation ecosystem.
Meanwhile, WRI Indonesia is an independent research institution that has a vision and mission to create a balance between environmental protection, economic growth, and human welfare. On this occasion, Grab Indonesia also conducted an experiment on the use of electric vehicles, both cars and electric motorbikes in the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center area "Today's activity is very relevant in our efforts to accelerate the massive use of electric vehicles in Indonesia," said the Minister of Transportation, Sunday (23/1/2022). The Minister of Transportation said that this collaboration will not just stop after the G20 Summit activities in Bali are completed, but will be the first step to encourage the acceleration of the electric vehicle ecosystem, as a transition to the use of clean and environmentally friendly energy.
Furthermore, in an effort to support the G20 Summit in Bali, especially from the transportation sector, the Ministry of Transportation has made an effort, one of which is to provide electric buses that will be used as a means of commuter transportation from Ngurah Rai Airport to the location of the G20. "As directed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo, we will provide support for environmentally friendly transportation, as a form of Indonesia's commitment to handling climate change, which is a global issue today," said the Minister of Transportation. His party will continue to encourage all parties, including private mass transportation business actors to use electric vehicles, and also continue to strive to create a good electric vehicle ecosystem, for example: battery management, charging points, affordable prices, and so on. "We continue to encourage the economic level of this electric vehicle to be better in the future, so that it is more economical and more massive in use. By using electric vehicles, the environment will be clean, and we will become a famous nation, which is known to care about the environment," concluded the Minister of Transportation.
