The potential for swallow nest commodities from North Sumatra has a high selling value. Based on information from the Head of Medan Agricultural Quarantine Lenny Hartati Harahap, North Sumatra is the largest exporter of swallow nests in Indonesia. There are also areas that produce the most swallow nests in North Sumatra, including Medan, Langkat, Deli Serdang, and Sergai. "The biggest export in Indonesia is from the Medan Agricultural Quarantine Center for swallow nests with a value of almost Rp. 1 trillion," said Lenny, Wednesday (5/1/2022). Lenny said, for this swallow's nest, the country's largest export destination is China by setting strict requirements that must be met by the country of origin of the export. "In the case of China, the garden must be registered and approved by China first, after that the packaging house must also be registered because it is related to how the process is and food safety. If it has been approved, we will export it," she said.
In the export of swallow nests, the Medan Agricultural Quarantine Center has obtained seven companies that have received approval from The General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (GACC) for the export of swallow nests. Meanwhile, to help encourage exporters to complete export requirements, Medan Agricultural Quarantine also cooperates with Angkasapura and Kualanamu Customs. "We will jointly guide farmers, exporters, and also invite the North Sumatra Agriculture Service. Because the requirements for exporters are not only in quarantine but also from Angkasa Pura regarding transportation and customs duties from customs. We will educate all of that, said Lenny. Not only that, but the Medan Agricultural Quarantine Center is also aggressively sending samples of commodities from North Sumatra such as vanilla, andaliman, Moringa leaves, centipedes taken from oil palm, radishes, and others. "The delivery of this first sample is important as the spearhead so that when we send this first sample, we check it both in terms of quarantine plant organisms and quarantine animal pests," she concluded.
