The Indonesian government seeks to maximize the existing potential to attract investors into the country. As an industry that has a major role in Indonesia's economic growth, its contribution to automotive continues to be encouraged. Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, said that investment in the automotive sector is very important, but other indicators are no less important to boost the growth of the industry. "This investment in the automotive industry is very important, but new products are also very important, then after that what is also important is to encourage the TKDN (Domestic Component Level) to be higher and higher," Agus said in the 2021 End of Year Press Conference and 2022 Outlook at the Ministry of Industry Office, Jakarta, Wednesday (29/12/2021).
The Ministry of Industry seeks to present various regulations so that the deepening of manufacturing in the automotive industry is higher. Agus added that the most important thing for the development of the automotive industry in Indonesia is how Indonesia can become an export hub for automotive products. "There are many choices for automotive manufacturers to be able to become big contributors to the manufacturing industry in Indonesia. So that automotive industry manufacturers can expand market access for car products produced in Indonesia to new markets," explained the Minister of Industry.
The Minister of Industry asked the principals of automotive companies from Japan and Germany to expand export markets to new destination countries. Automotive manufacturers from Japan such as Toyota, Honda, and Suzuki will expand their product export markets from Indonesia starting next year. Meanwhile, producers from Germany are encouraged by the Ministry of Industry to focus on making Indonesia their export hub to Australia. "I went to Germany yesterday to meet Mercedes principals. I asked if they did not want to invest heavily in Indonesia, I asked that products produced in Indonesia could be exported to Australia because we have cooperation with that country. Insyaallah there is good news from Mercedes, they will start making Indonesia their export hub," he said.
