Sri Mulyani Explains the Direct Benefits of the G20 Presidency for the Community

Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati conveyed several impacts that will be felt directly by the community from the implementation of the G20 Indonesia Presidency. The most visible impact of the implementation of the G20 Indonesia Presidency is the creation of a large number of jobs considering that more than 157 meetings will be held. In addition, most importantly, Indonesia as a developing country and the largest country in ASEAN is also considered as a country that currently has stable economic and political conditions, will be the leader of the meeting that will support the formation of policies that have an impact on the whole world.

For example, a meeting between central banks and finance ministers of G20 countries will discuss the design of economic policies that will be carried out by each country to be able to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic. She gave an example, China's economic growth slowed in the third quarter of 2021 and high inflation in the United States which required the country to normalize monetary policy, of course, would greatly affect the policy and recovery process of countries in the world. “Such as the monetary and fiscal policy [adjustments] which then cause a propagation effect, the impact on the Indonesian people. Meanwhile, if the world economy grows high, it means that our exports are growing high," she said, Wednesday (12/22/2021).

The continuous increase in commodity prices and boosting export performance will ultimately have a positive impact on state revenues. "So the impact on the Indonesian economy is in the form above, our economy also increases in terms of export activities, commodity prices increase and that has an impact on economic actors and the community," she explained. Sri added that the G20 Indonesia Presidency will also discuss very important policies, especially to overcome current world problems, namely Covid-19. "We are currently discussing how the finance minister and the health minister can prevent the world from being more prepared in case of another pandemic," she said. She said this was the main focus of the world. The reason is, the cost of handling Covid-19 globally has reached more than US$ 12 trillion from the fiscal side and US$ 11 trillion from the monetary side. She considered the world should be able to learn to overcomethis problem if a pandemic occurs again in the future.
