Bahlil Opens Up About Strategies to Get Electric Car Battery Investment to RI

The Minister of Investment and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia explained a number of strategies to attract investment in electric car batteries to Indonesia. Not only promoting and providing ease of licensing, said Bahlil, BKPM is also looking for options to acquire an electric car company from Germany. "SOE's got IBC (Indonesia Battery Corporation), a company to handle (mismanagement) and car battery ecosystem," he said, in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Sunday, December 19, 2021. The government, said Bahlil, through IBC is no plan to acquire shares factory electric cars in Germany. "There are only two ways. If we can't build it, we will acquire it," he said.

Furthermore, Bahlil emphasized that if the acquisition option is chosen, the price must still be economical and the process transparent. The former Chairperson of Hipmi said that promotional efforts were still being carried out, including the promotion of the ease of investment licensing. Currently, said Bahlil, Indonesia has 22-24 percent of the world's nickel reserves. The quality of the nickel content is also the best. Not only that. The location of Indonesia's nickel mines is still relatively close to the port, meaning that the production costs are much more economical. He said the main ingredients to support the production of electric car batteries are nickel, manganese, cobalt and lithium. "Of the four, we just do not have lithium. So 85 percent of the car battery materials in our country. That is why people all being meddle meddle with us for our exports of these goods. We do not want to," he said.
When referring to the national strategic plan, Indonesia already had to switch to full electric vehicles by 2040. The government began to push past these efforts since 2019 when the government finally managed to hook the South Korean Hyundai, to enter Indonesia. The government is also targeting electric battery manufacturers and the world's electric vehicle industry to invest in Indonesia. Investment commitments have also come from CATL from China and Foxconn from Taiwan. Foxconn, said Bahlil, will also build electric cars in 2022. "Now there is CATL to build a battery factory, but he is also cooperating with a car factory from China."
