Fishery Cultivation Businesses Increase

The number of aquaculture businesses throughout 2021 has increased. Gibran Huzaifah, CEO and Co-founder of eFishery, noted that until the end of 2021, it is estimated that the number of cultivators who have joined the eFishery ecosystem will reach 27,000 people. This figure is an increase of 1,074 percent compared to the number of farmers who use eFishery services in 2020. “This technology opens collaboration. Because the innovations produced by technology open access to all business actors and create value together. If this year we can reach 27,000 cultivators, next year we aim for 200,000 cultivators spread over 250 regencies/cities to join our ecosystem," said Gibran in his written statement. With the increasing number of fish and shrimp cultivators using eFishery technology, Gibran said that the economic cycle in the aquaculture sector and its supporting industries is increasing.

Through the KABAYAN feature (Kasih, Bayar Nanti)  the number of farmers who take advantage of the convenience in buying feed reaches 6,000 people with a total amount of feed distributed reaching 25,000 tons or the equivalent of Rp. 400 billion. "Next year, we are targeting the number of cultivators who use Kabayan as many as 30,000 people, with a total financing of Rp. 1.3 trillion and the amount of feed distributed is 100,000 tons," he said.

This year, according to eFishery, more than 13,000 tons of fish harvested by farmers have been distributed to meet the food needs of the Indonesian people. eFishery recorded a total transaction of IDR 420 billion from domestic fish distribution and shrimp exports in 2021. According to Ujang Komarudin, Director of Fish Feed and Medicine at the Indonesian Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, the trend of fishery production in Indonesia has shifted from capture fisheries to aquaculture. Ujang noted that in 2020, fish and shrimp cultivators in Indonesia were able to produce 15.45 million tons, while the catch of fishermen at sea was only 7.7 million tons. “Aquaculture is estimated to be able to contribute 16 percent of the US$ 1.33 trillion economic potential value in Indonesia's marine sector. So if we focus on developing aquaculture, it is the same as waking a sleeping giant. Very extraordinary," said Ujang.
