President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) projects that Indonesia's digital market potential will reach US$146 billion or equivalent to Rp2,092.6 trillion (exchange rate of 14,333) in 2025. According to him, the trend of digital market spikes has started to appear since 2019. At that time, Indonesia's digital market was US$40 billion, then rose to US$47 billion in 2020. Then in 2021 it will rise 49% to around US$70 billion and it is estimated that in 2025 it will penetrate US$146 billion. President Joko Widodo sees the increase in the digital market in Indonesia caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. He noted that 10.2% of new digital consumers entered digital platforms during the COVID-19 pandemic. Followed by during the pandemic there was an increase in logistics by up to 60 percent due to the high demand for delivery services. The increase was also contributed by the rise of online shopping during the pandemic.
Jokowi assesses that the era of digitalization can no longer be dammed. Therefore, he instructed the government, the private sector, and the community to prepare an ecosystem to support the growth of digitalization. Maximizing the digital market in the midst of a strong digitalization flow makes the government see the great potential to improve the Indonesian economy. The pandemic is one of the important factors that accelerates the digital market ecosystem in Indonesia. "E-money transactions rose 55 percent as of October 2021, all up, up, up. The volume of e-money transactions compared to last year as of October also rose 31 percent," he said.
