The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) focuses on seeking opportunities related to the entry of sustainable investment in the marine and fisheries sector, such as in the field of shrimp farming and canned fish processing industry. "Business opportunities in the marine and fisheries sector are very prospective. For this reason, we are open to investment in this sector," said Director General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fishery Products (PDSPKP) KKP Artati Widiarti in Jakarta, Tuesday. Artati reminded that the export of fishery products as of October 2021 reached 4.56 billion US dollars, an increase of 6.6 percent compared to the same period in the previous year. Then in terms of financing for marine and fisheries businesses, continued the Director General of PDSPKP, there was also a significant increase, namely in the last 5 year period (2017-2021) an average of 4.58 percent per year.
Head of the Fisheries Business Division of the Pasuruan Regency Fisheries Service, Ahmad Solah, said that his party had offered investment opportunities in the Vaname shrimp cultivation business in his area with an area of 1,100 ha ready for cultivation. Ahmad Solah explained that the required investment value is IDR 3.14 trillion with advantages such as Pasuruan Regency is located in the golden triangle and is strategic because it is close to the provincial capital and is at the intersection of other cities / regencies such as Malang and Probolinggo / Banyuwangi. "Pasuruan also has complete infrastructure, the location of shrimp ponds is close and easy for the installation of PLN electricity connections, access to main roads and toll roads both to the airport and to export ports, and various other advantages," said Solah. Regarding shrimp commodities, Destructive Fishing Watch (DFW) stated the importance of basic improvements to various issues related to national shrimp production in order to achieve production of 2 million tons by 2024 as targeted by the KKP. DFW Indonesia National Coordinator Moh Abdi Suhufan stated that currently there are three basic problems faced in increasing shrimp production, namely the absence of detailed maps of the pond, the status of the pond land, and the condition of waterways that are not functioning. "Currently, there is no detailed map of ponds in Indonesia for management and engineering purposes at the farm level," said Abdi.
According to him, the KKP's plan to revitalize traditional shrimp ponds covering an area of 5,000 ha throughout Indonesia should be questioned. In addition, he said, there were also problems such as the status and ownership of cultivated land being sensitive and contributing to the failure of the shrimp farming program so far. "Our data is in Southeast Sulawesi, due to limited land, almost 50 percent of the pond area is in a mangrove protected area, especially in South Konawe, Bombana and West Muna Regencies," said Abdi. He believes that the target of 2 million tons in 2024 will be achieved if there are changes and reforms in the aquaculture program, and if the intervention is limited to only providing or providing facilities and infrastructure such as seeds, floodgates and generators.
