Equitable Infrastructure, Investment Outside Java Increases

Even distribution of infrastructure development that is being intensively carried out by the government throughout Indonesia has triggered an increase in investment. The value of investment outside Java is increasing, even higher than the value of investment in Java. This was conveyed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) when inaugurating Tebelian Airport in Sintang Regency, West Kalimantan, Wednesday (12/8/2021). "We should be grateful that this year's investment figure outside Java is increasing and higher than in Java. This increase in investment outside Java cannot be separated from our efforts to prepare infrastructure evenly throughout the country," he said. Based on data released by the Ministry of Investment / Investment Coordinating Board (BPKM), the realization of investment in the third quarter of 2021 or the July-September period reached IDR 216.7 trillion.Of this amount, the realization of investment in Java reached Rp 104.2 trillion (48.1%), while outside Java was Rp 112.5 trillion (51.9%). Jokowi emphasized that the infrastructure development carried out was not only centered in Java, but Indonesia-centric. "We believe that regions outside Java can grow rapidly if supported by adequate infrastructure, connectivity and transportation so that production will increase, distribution will be smooth, reach a bigger, wider market, and reduce time and costs, so that logistics costs are becoming more efficient and more competitive,” he said. Tebelian Airport which was built with a budget of Rp 580 billion is targeted to be able to serve 75,000 passengers every year. Jokowi said that Tebelian Airport is very important to serve the increasing need for air transportation for the community and to serve the increasingly crowded movement of people. In the era of increasingly fierce competition between countries, Jokowi continued, the Indonesian nation must be able to move faster, so that smooth connectivity is very much needed. “Smooth connectivity is key. We must be able to make inter-provincial, inter-regional, inter-district connectivity easier and smoother, affordable by the community, so that new economic centers will grow more and more in various regions," he concluded.

In his report, the Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi said that Tebelian Airport is the second airport in Sintang Regency and was built to replace Susilo Airport which can no longer be developed. The presence of Tebelian Airport is expected to support various industries and tourism in Sintang Regency and the surrounding area. "This airport is very important to support the plantation, mining and tourism industries in Sintang, Sekadau, Sanggau, Melawi regencies," said Budi Karya Sumadi. Tebelian Airport stands on an area of 153.6 hectares and has a passenger terminal of 2,000 square meters. The airport has a runway of 1,820 meters long and 30 meters wide which can currently accommodate aircraft of the ATR-72/600 type. The runway can be expanded to 2,200 meters. "If we can extend (the runway, ed), then it will be able to land a narrow body 737," said Budi Karya Sumadi.
