The government will design a business ecosystem for the fashion industry that connects the supply chain from upstream to downstream. This was said by the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno when inaugurating the "Jakarta Fashion Hub" (JFH) at Kebon Melati, Central Jakarta, Saturday (4/12). "The ecosystem involves designers, production, and access to materials," said Sandiaga Uno as stated in a press statement. “Jakarta Fashion Hub” is a “co-working space” initiated by the Asia Pacific Rayon (APR) and aimed at fashion fans who want to channel their passion for work to create their own fashion brand. The presence of JFH is expected to strengthen DKI Jakarta as a fashion center in Indonesia and can encourage the emergence of new "fashionpreneurs" and "creativepreneurs" who contribute to the development of the local fashion and textile industry.
According to the Menparekraf, there are 17 sub-sectors of the creative economy that contributed IDR 1,100 trillion to Indonesia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) throughout 2020. The three sub-sectors that are the biggest contributors to the GDP structure and in terms of exports are fashion, culinary and crafts. The potential of the Indonesian fashion industry is that there are many human resources that can increase the amount of production. Indonesia's vast natural and cultural wealth allows for the diversification of diverse works. "But it has its own values and stories (such as in the archipelago's wastra style) and the number of potential consumers has increased despite the (Covid-19) pandemic by up to 300 percent," said Sandiaga. Through the support initiated by APR, it is hoped that JFH can strengthen the creation of national fashion works so that they are better and have a special place in the hearts of local people and make Indonesian works more ready to compete at the international level. "I really hope that this event can provide innovation and insight for creative economy actors and hopefully all these conveniences can increase the spirit of contributing to evoke Indonesia's creative economy," he said.
