IOG 2021 Closing: Upstream Oil and Gas Industry Remains the Main Pillar of Energy

The largest upstream oil and gas (oil and gas) industry convention in Indonesia, The 2nd International Convention on Indonesian Upstream Oil and Gas 2021, closed with a mutual understanding that the upstream oil and gas industry will continue to be the main pillar of energy amid global awareness of the importance of the energy transition to energy. newly renewable (EBT). Deputy Head of the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) Fatar Yani reminded that it is urgent to optimize this role to support economic growth. “Now is the time. We only have a very narrow time lag in utilizing the upstream oil and gas industry to support the energy transition in a sustainable way or in a sustainable way," he said when closing the 2021 IOG convention, in Bali, Wednesday (1/12/2021). According to him, Indonesia's upstream oil and gas industry holds great unexplored potential. Thus, Fatar emphasized that the upstream oil and gas industry is ready to cooperate with investors, both from within and outside the country. "The government is also committed to offering competitive returns on investment, increasing the ease of doing business, and demonstrating strong collaboration between stakeholders and related parties," he said.

According to him, the upstream oil and gas industry has played an important role, not only as a supplier of energy but also as one of the pillars of the Indonesian economy, including having a positive impact on supporting industries. "This strategic role will continue along with the journey of the Republic of Indonesia, which will enter its 100th anniversary in 2045," said Fatar. Furthermore, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has also conveyed five strategies to achieve the production target of 1 million BOPD of oil and 12 BSCFD of gas by 2030. The five strategies are optimizing production from existing fields; accelerate the transformation of reserves into production; accelerate the implementation of Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) technology; promote massive exploration; and accelerating regulatory reform through a one-stop licensing policy and providing incentives for the upstream oil and gas industry.

Fatar assessed that with Indonesia's commitment to achieve Net Zero Emission by 2060, the role of the upstream oil and gas industry, especially natural gas, became increasingly crucial in line with the government's commitment to slowly reduce the use of coal energy. Natural gas as a larger energy alternative, he said, would play an important role in the transition to new and renewable energy. Meanwhile, the 2021 IOG Convention closed with several important activities, namely the signing of 41 commercial agreements; SKK Migas Award; and the launch of the National Capability Data Book. The convention, which has been held since November 29, 2021 on a hybrid basis, was attended by around 145,000 people.
