The government is trying to include the classification of halal products into the harmonized system or HS Code in international trade. The existence of this classification will facilitate identification in the trade balance. This was conveyed by the Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani Indrawati in the plenary meeting of the National Sharia Economic and Finance Committee (KNEKS) on Tuesday (30/11/2021). The meeting discussed efforts to encourage Indonesia to become the center of the world's halal producers. According to Sri Mulyani, strengthening the framework for trading halal products is one of the important aspects to become a producer center. Therefore, the Directorate General of Customs and Excise seeks to make an HS Code for halal products. "Customs is also improving and struggling to include the classification of halal products in the HS Code for international trade merchandise products," Sri Mulyani said on Tuesday (11/30/2021).

The Ministry of Finance cooperates with the Ministry of Trade in encouraging the manufacture of the HS Code for the halal product. The Ministry of Trade has a role because the making of the HS Code is the main task of the World Customs Organization and the World Trade Organization. "So that later we can identify in the trade balance how much is the share of halal products in the trade balance indicator," said Sri Mulyani. Domestically, KNEKS and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise also cooperate with the National Single Window Institution (LNSW) in supporting the halal industrial complex. These institutions also cooperate with the Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH) in the codification of halal for exports and imports. "In this case, the exported halal product will be certified with a document export notification of goods that is certified as halal from the product. As for imports that will be used domestically, it will be easier to get halal certification," said Sri Mulyani.
