The Presidency of the G20 Indonesia Summit was officially opened on Wednesday night at Banteng Square, Central Jakarta by President Joko Widodo. In his opening video, Jokowi said that the G20 Presidency is a great opportunity for Indonesia to contribute more to the world's economic recovery. "Indonesia's G20 presidency is not only ceremonial, but also encourages G20 countries to take real action, make big breakthroughs, and build collaborations and gather strength so that the world community can feel the positive impact of this cooperation," he said.
Jokowi said Indonesia would focus on three things, namely; inclusive health care, digital-based economic transformation, and the transition to sustainable energy. Indonesia's G20 presidency, which carries the theme "Recover Together, Recover Stronger" is a momentum to increase economic diplomacy through efforts to create a post-crisis global economic and health architecture. "Indonesia's presidency will also be used to fight for the aspirations and interests of developing countries. Indonesia is trying to build a fairer world governance," added Jokowi. Jokowi also said that through the G20 Presidency, Indonesia would continue to strive to strengthen world solidarity in tackling climate change and sustainable development. "And garner commitment from developed countries to help developing countries. Rich countries help poor countries," he said. "Indonesia strives to produce concrete initiatives to encourage the recovery of the global situation so that it recovers quickly and becomes strong," he continued.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, as Chair I of the Sherpa Track Division of the G20 Indonesia Presidency, said that the Indonesian G20 Presidency aims to make the world come out of the crisis better and more resilient. "This of course requires a transformation of the global way of working, changing mindsets and business models, taking advantage of every opportunity in the midst of a pandemic to produce new breakthroughs," he said. On the same occasion, Airlangga handed over a pin or assignment sign to representatives of Chairs Working Groups and Engagement Groups symbolically and launched the official G20 website, namely www.g20.org. The site contains information on meeting schedules, side events, and workstreams, both from the Sherpa Track and the Finance Track.
