The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Opens the Doors Widely for New Renewable Energy Investments (EBT)

Investment opportunities in the new and renewable energy (EBT) sub-sector are very wide open. The reason is, Indonesia has great potential from its NRE resources. "Opportunities for investment in the new and renewable energy sub-sector are very wide open," said Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif, Tuesday (11/23/2021). Arifin said the government would implement a Renewable Energy Investment Day, starting with the inauguration of 21 new renewable energy projects based on hydro, solar and biogas with a capacity of 312 megawatts and a biodiesel plant with a capacity of 580 thousand kiloliters per year. Then marked four new renewable energy contracts, the announcement of clean energy projects offered by PLN to investors as the implementation of the 2021-2030 RUPLT with a total capacity of 1.2 gigawatts for the 2021-2022 procurement period.

"The estimated total investment value from the inauguration of the signing and offering of new renewable energy projects is USD3.9 billion and will be able to absorb more than 52 thousand people," said Minister Arifin. Based on data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the use of renewable energy is currently only 0.3% of the total potential possessed by Indonesia. The total net energy potential in Indonesia is recorded at 3,64.4 gigawatts consisting of 3,294.4 gigawatts of solar, water, 94.6 gigawatts, 56.9 gigawatts of bioenergy, 154.9 gigawatts of wind, 23.7 gigawatts of geothermal, and 59 gigawatts of ocean. ,9 gigawatts. Meanwhile, the portion of clean energy that has just been utilized at this time is only 10,889 megawatts consisting of 194 megawatts of solar, 6,432 megawatts of water, 1,923 megawatts of bioenergy, 154 megawatts of wind, and 2,186 megawatts of geothermal.

In addition to the potential for renewable energy, a variety of new energy potentials that exist are still not widely known, such as uranium for nuclear power plants. Minister Arifin said that the total realization of investment in the new and renewable energy sub-sector was 1.12 billion US dollars until the third quarter of 2021. Realization of the capital comes from geothermal investment by 49%; various new and renewable energies in the form of water, sun, and wind by 32%; bioenergy 18%; and the remaining 1% comes from investment in energy conservation. "By the end of 2021, it is hoped that the realization of investment in the new, renewable energy sub-sector and energy conservation can reach 1.44 billion US dollars," said Arifin. Currently, Indonesia is moving towards relaxing the vision of green economic development, thus requiring support from stakeholders and investment in new renewable energy projects from electricity and non-electricity so that the energy transition process can run well and the targets that have been set can be achieved according to the deadline. set time.
