Ministry of Transportation Speeds up the Use of Electric Vehicles in Indonesia

The government continues to intensify the use of electric vehicles to reduce carbon emissions in Indonesia. The implementation is carried out in accordance with Presidential Regulation no. 55/2019 concerning the Acceleration of the Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicle Program for Road Transportation. Director General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) Budi Setiyadi said that the government encourages the use of electric vehicles because currently several countries in the world are improving climate and environmental changes so they must suppress air pollution. "From the transportation sector, we encourage changes to fossil fuel vehicles to become electric fuels," he said, Monday (11/22/2021).

Budi said that the acceleration of the use of electric vehicles was carried out by implementing a road map through various stages. Among them are operational service vehicles of the Central and Regional Governments, the TNI and the Police, mass public transportation, BRT through the Buy The Service (BTS) program for urban public transportation, airport transportation, tourism transportation in the KSPN area, and AKAP. According to him, electric vehicles do not emit emissions to the air, so the use of zero emission vehicles will continue to be encouraged. In fact, the Ministry of Transportation has made a Regulation of the Minister of Transportation for converting combustion engine vehicles to electric vehicles which can then be registered so that it is legal. "Now it's just a matter of how we accelerate the use of cars and motorcycles. One thing we can encourage to accelerate this use is the government's operational vehicles," Budi said. Budi further assessed that the road map for the use of electric buses and electric vehicles for the benefit of the government was prioritized because they were large. the possibility that people will use it after being used by government agencies.

As for public transportation, the use of electric vehicles will make the infrastructure easier. "Currently there are several APM electric cars in Indonesia. There are 13 units of buses that have submitted a type test and have been used, one of which is used by TransJakarta. Next will follow PPD and DAMRI," added Budi. For information, as of November 2021, the population of vehicles Currently, electricity in Indonesia has reached 14,400 with details of 4-wheeled passenger cars reaching 1,656 units, 3-wheeled vehicles as many as 262 units, electric motorcycles 12,464 units, buses 13 units, and goods cars 5 units. While based on data compiled by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources As of September 2021, the number of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) has reached 187 units spread over 155 locations on the islands of Java, Sumatra and Sulawesi.
