Jokowi Builds Green Industrial Park Next Month, Invites Private Enterprises

President Joko Widodo said that the construction of a green industrial park or green industrial park in North Kalimantan will begin in December 2021. The government has also invited the private sector to enter, in line with the high need for investment which is not enough only from state finances. The plan was re-submitted by Jokowi on Thursday (11/18/2021). Previously, the government had conveyed that the green industrial park development plan would take place in October 2021, but then it was pushed back to next month. According to Jokowi, the global economy is shifting its orientation towards a green economy. Indonesia will also do the same, in line with the commitments in the Paris agreement and the latest pact as a result of the Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) meeting in Glasgow, Scotland. Indonesia will also build a green industrial area in North Kalimantan as an effort to build a production center based on environmentally friendly energy. Jokowi claimed that the project on a 20-hectare land made Indonesia the first country to have a green industrial area.

"Next month we will start building a green industrial park in North Kalimantan whose energy comes from green energy, from the Kayan River," Jokowi said on Thursday (11/18/2021). Jokowi claims that there are already many investors lining up to enter the green industrial area. According to him, investors are attracted to enter because the energy source is green energy.

He also stated that the development of North Kalimantan's green industrial area requires a very large cost. The development of the region cannot rely solely on the state treasury, so Jokowi also invites investors to enter there. "It takes a very large investment and we don't have the capability, so the private sector is welcome to come in," said Jokowi. The Kayan River, which will be the energy source for the industrial area, has the potential for hydro energy to produce around 11,000–13,000 megawatts of electricity. According to Jokowi, this potential only comes from one river, while in Indonesia there are more than 4,400 large rivers and medium rivers that can be a source of hydro energy.

In addition, there are various geothermal potentials, which according to Jokowi can produce up to 29,000 megawatts of electricity. Indonesia also has various other renewable energy potentials, such as wind and wind (tidal) which must be utilized as soon as possible. "We also have great power here [green economy], this strategy must begin to be regulated. Because people later, in 2030 Europe and the United States may have stopped, no longer want to accept goods from [countries with production-based] Fossil energy, they don't want to," said Jokowi.
