The Indonesia Spices Business Forum and Expo (ISBFE) 2021 is a momentum to bring back the glory of Nusantara spices in the past. The event which will be held on December 10-12 in Parapat City, Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra Province (North Sumatra) is also an opportunity for spice players to increase exports. Deputy Executive of the Indonesian Spice Council (DRI) Lukman Basir said the 2021 ISBFE activities are expected to improve the downstream sector. "In the future, we want to export more spices in the form of finished goods rather than raw materials so that the economic value will be higher and be able to contribute significantly to foreign exchange for the country," said Lukman, Sunday (11/21/2021).
Lukman revealed several reasons why North Sumatra was chosen as the venue for the 2021 ISBFE. These include having a port to transport various products exported to foreign countries, producing products that are world phenomena, for example Toba incense, becoming a melting pot or a mixture of cultures from various ethnicities, often encouraging export of spices in the form of cooking spices and the existence of Lake Toba as a super priority destination. Various preparations have been intensively carried out by the central committee and local committees in North Sumatra Province to make ISBFE 2021 activities a success. Chairman of the ISBFE 2021 Central Committee Gamal Nasir said coordination meetings between the central committee and local committees will continue to be held both online and offline. "In an intense coordination meeting between the central committee and the local committee, I am optimistic that the ISBFE 2021 event can be held well and smoothly in North Sumatra," he said.
In line with Gamal, the Head of ISBFE 2021 Local Committee Lies Handayani Siregar, stated that in principle North Sumatra is ready to hold this international event. "On November 15, 2021, there has been a Local Committee Decree so that we are free to move formally," said Lies. In principle, North Sumatra is ready to host ISBFE 2021.
