WSBK Event Triggers West Nusa Tenggara Economic Growth Up to 5.81 Percent

Bank Indonesia (BI) predicts that the economic growth of West Nusa Tenggara in the fourth quarter of 2021 will be in the range of 5.01-5.81 percent (yoy). One of the triggers was the World Superbike (WSBK) event which was held at the Mandalika Circuit, Lombok. "The WSBK event on November 19-21, 2021 will affect economic growth because of the multi-economic effects of the big international event, both in the tourism sector, transportation to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs)," said Head of BI Representative for NTB Province, Heru Saptaji. , in Mataram, NTB, Sunday (14/11). He said factors that also influenced NTB's economic growth in a better direction were well-controlled inflation and maintained financial system stability. In addition, other triggers are the improvement in COVID-19 control through the implementation of community activity restrictions (PPKM) and the aggressive progress of COVID-19 vaccination. This is evidenced by the achievement of the first dose of vaccination by 61.95 percent and the second dose of 27.42 percent.

"In fact, the first dose in Mataram City and Central Lombok Regency was in the range of 70-96 percent," he said. Heru added that the positive trend of NTB's economic growth was reflected in the growth of gross regional domestic product (GDP) since the second quarter of 2021 at 4.76 percent and the third quarter of 2021 and 2.42 percent (yoy). This figure is much better than the conditions in the first quarter of 2021 which still experienced a contraction of minus 1.13 percent (yoy). "In the third quarter of 2021, the NTB economy continued to grow positively, but slowed down a bit due to the implementation of PPKM in the midst of the spread of the Delta COVID-19 variant," he said. According to him, to achieve good economic growth in the fourth quarter of 2021, all parties must oversee the vaccination program and the implementation of health protocols to control the spread of COVID-19. In addition, the NTB Provincial BI Representative Office together with the regional government and related vertical agencies continue to strive to develop the export market for non-mining commodities in the NTB region.

"Non-mining export commodities can be a new engine driving regional economic growth," he also said. In the fourth quarter of 2021, Heru estimates that the sales activity of NTB's non-mining export commodities will increase in line with the overcoming of mobility constraints and the availability of containers that caused a decline in sales value in the previous quarter. "Assistance and end-to-end process guidance for micro, small and medium enterprises for non-mining export commodities are essential to produce non-mining products of export quality," he said.
