Offer Infrastructure at Expo 2020, Here's How Foreign Investors Enter Indonesia

The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) offered 10 public private partnership infrastructure projects worth US$9.2 billion to investors at the Expo 2020 Dubai business forum, United Arab Emirates. “Currently, there are 24 projects, both solicited and unsolicited worth US$19 billion, of which 10 public private partnership projects are ready to be offered worth US$9.2 billion. These projects consist of 9 road projects and 1 dam project," said Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono in an official statement, Sunday (11/14/2021). In a business forum on regulations and investment opportunities in the construction sector in Indonesia, Minister Basuki said that there are two platforms that entrepreneurs can use to enter and invest in the infrastructure sector. First, as a foreign-owned limited liability company, and the second as a foreign construction service business entity.

Indonesia itself requires a budget of US$430 billion to develop domestic infrastructure. Of these needs, only 30 percent can be covered by the State Budget (APBN). Meanwhile, the remaining 70 percent is obtained through investment, which continues to be pursued through a number of policies to remain competitive and attractive, such as creative road financing schemes, and tax incentives for new investment. The government also issued Law No. 11/2020 on Job Creation which aims to open up greater opportunities for entrepreneurs to invest in domestic infrastructure. The Indonesian Pavilion at the seventh week of Expo 2020 Dubai broadcast digital content containing the support of the Ministry of PUPR for the Five Super Priority Tourism Destinations, development of eastern Indonesia, increasing accessibility between regions, and developing special areas.

Five Super Priority Tourism Destinations are part of the government's program to present ten new Balis. The tourist destinations included in the program are Lake Toba, Borobudur Temple, Lombok-Mandalika, Labuan Bajo, and Likupang. The five super priority tourist destinations are expected not only to attract tourists, but also to foster a creative economic ecosystem that involves local residents. The Ministry of PUPR's support for the Five Super Priority Tourism Destinations is in the form of infrastructure development at each location that is planned in an integrated manner. These developments are in the form of structuring the area, increasing access, providing raw and clean water, managing waste, sanitation, and improving people's housing through a master plan for infrastructure development.
