The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) encourages chicken farmers to enter the global market. One of them that is currently being carried out is exploring opportunities for the first export of chicken meat to Malaysia. Director General of National Export Development at the Ministry of Trade Didi Sumedi said that currently the Directorate General of National Export Development (DG PEN) of the Ministry of Trade and PT Astra International Tbk are synergizing to produce small chicken farmers so that they are ready to become chicken meat exporters to neighboring countries and Muslim-majority countries. The chicken breeders are under the guidance of the Indonesian Village Community Economic Movement Boarding Association (Insan Madani) which is the facilitator of five chicken centers in the Astra Prosperous Village (DSA) pesantren in East Java, namely Al Azhar Aslich Mughny, Al Fatah, Mambaul Ulum, Anharul Ulum, and Fathul Ulum. “Through this collaboration, Darbe Meats is committed to being an off taker and facilitator of Islamic boarding school DSA for chicken farming products. In the future, five DSA Islamic boarding schools spread across Blitar, Malang, and Jombang will serve as chicken suppliers to Darbe Meats," said Didi in his statement, Saturday (11/13).
He continued, the chicken suppliers will then supply the needs of the domestic market and the global market. "We are currently exploring opportunities for the first export of chicken meat products to Malaysia," he explained. The Director of Export Development Cooperation at the Ministry of Trade, Marolop Nainggolan, explained that the scope of this collaboration includes marketing cooperation for chicken products and their derivatives for local and international markets, developing the supply chain (value chain) of chicken products and their derivatives, as well as coaching and training for DSA breeders. Islamic boarding school producing chicken products and their derivatives. "The scope of this collaboration also includes the use of ecosystems and digital technology for MSMEs and DSA-assisted breeders. In addition, connecting and matching (link and match) export products and facilitating marketing through collaboration with export stakeholders abroad, such as the Indonesian Trade Promotion Center, Indonesian Trade Attaché, Indonesian Embassy, and the diaspora," said Marolop. He continued, various related parties continue to work on solving a number of challenges. Such as the provisions of food safety standards in the destination country and the high cost of logistics due to the pandemic situation. "We are looking for a way out to solve this challenge," he added.
Marolop hopes that the collaboration between Insan Madani and Darbe Meats can make Indonesian chicken products more accessible to a wider export market. "We hope that this collaboration can bring concrete results through increasing the export value of Indonesian chicken products and increasing the welfare of small farmers who are fostered by DSA pesantren," said Marolop. Bondan Susilo, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility of PT Astra International Tbk, said that the cooperation between the Ministry of Trade and Astra provides support for capacity building, increasing production facilities, and accessing resources for DSA pesantren chicken farmers. "The Ministry of Trade provides support to open market access and export promotion to buyers through a network of overseas trade representatives," said Bondan on a separate occasion. Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), during the last five years or 2016-2020, the export value of Indonesian chicken meat grew at a trend of 16.9 percent per year.
