Commissioner of PT PLN Bright Batam Rizal Calvary Marimbo proposed that Batam City deserves to host the G20 meeting in December 2021. "I think apart from Bali and Jakarta, Batam City is the most prepared," Rizal said in his statement in Batam, Sunday (11/7/2021). Rizal, who is also the Investment Committee of the Ministry of Investment/BKPM, said Batam is an icon of Indonesian investment in the international world. So that if the G20 is held in Batam, it will revive Batam's investment brand at the global level. “The international world is currently looking at Lombok, Labuan Bajo, Bali, even though Batam has great potential to become an ultra modern city in the future. Our venue is of international standard. I think the mayor will be happy. I'll talk to him later," said Rizal.
As is known, the G20 Forum consists of 20 countries, namely the US, Argentina, Brazil, Australia, Canada, Mexico, Turkey, Indonesia, South Korea, Japan, China, Germany, UK, India, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Italy, Indonesia, France, Russia, plus the European Union. Indonesia is also the only country in Southeast Asia that is a member of the G20. Recently, President Jokowi accepted the G20 presidency as well as will be the host country for the G20 meeting. For 2022, Indonesia was elected and is preparing to hold the forum which will take place from December 1, 2021. Rizal said that his party ensures that the reliability of electricity services will be guaranteed in Batam if the G20 Forum takes place in Batam. He said, there would be many benefits for Batam if it became the host.
Because the international forum meeting will be in the spotlight because it discusses various issues in the world economy. With the appointment of Indonesia as the G20 Presidency, President Joko Widodo immediately formed a national committee to prepare for its implementation. However, it is still not known which area will be appointed as the location for the implementation of the international agenda.
