Direct Selling Industry Encouraged to Become the Backbone of the National Economy

MPR Chairman Bambang Soesatyo praised the work of the Indonesian Direct Selling Association (APLI) which has contributed a lot to economic development in Indonesia. According to him, as the only direct selling association in Indonesia recognized by the International Direct Selling Federation or WFDSA, it proves the success of APLI's hard work and tenacity in gaining worldwide recognition. "As an organization that accommodates companies with direct sales and multilevel marketing systems, APLI has an important role, both directly and indirectly," said Bamsoet when closing the APLI National Conference virtually in Jakarta, Monday (8/11). Bamsoet directly assessed that APLI plays an active role in fostering its members to ensure the suitability and feasibility of the company so that it remains within the ideal corridors that have been set by the organization. ADVERTISEMENT "Indirectly, APLI becomes a guideline for the public in choosing good and right direct sales and tiered sales companies," said the 20th DPR chairman. This step is considered as a guarantee that provides a sense of security for the community so that they do not hesitate to buy, use, or even join and distribute the products purchased and used.

"This condition not only has positive implications for member companies because it encourages the level of product sales, but also stimulates the rate of community economic growth," said Bamsoet. The Deputy Chairperson of the Golkar Party supports the advancement of the direct selling industry as the backbone of the national economy. While some people have lost their jobs due to the number of businesses that have gone out of business as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the direct selling industry has become even more vibrant. Sales made by the company and its members are able to reduce the unemployment rate in this industry, which is proven to be able to move the wheels of the economy during the pandemic. Bamsoet also conveyed that according to records from the Ministry of Trade, the direct selling or network marketing industry was able to provide income to the state of Rp. 16.3 trillion, involving around 5.3 million business partners.

"The journey of the Indonesian direct selling industry under the auspices of APLI, has also taken a very long time for 37 years. APLI has grown together accompanying the Indonesian people in building the national economy," explained Bamsoet. The head of the Law Enforcement, Security and Defense Agency of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) explained that this direct selling business can also be used by students. In addition, it is also instrumental in maintaining and protecting domestic products, because more than half or around 51.86 percent of the products sold are domestic products. "With the large contribution of APLI as a support for the national economy, the government should pay more attention to the existence of the direct sales sector. One of them is by ensuring that their core business continues to run, not being hit by sellers in the marketplace," concluded Bamsoet.
