Malra Provides Investment Facilities to Support KKP's "Seaweed Estate" Program

The Southeast Maluku District Government, Maluku Province, has prepared various facilities for investment licensing and land provision to support the integrated seaweed cultivation village program or 'seaweed estate' from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KK[) which is targeted to start running in 2022. facilities for investment ranging from licensing to providing land for the 'seaweed estate' program, because the program is a solution to create jobs and alleviate poverty in Malra, which is the front porch on the eastern Indonesian maritime border," said the Southeast Maluku Regent (Malra). ) M. Thaher Hunubun told ANTARA in Ambon, Sunday.

He said the local government was moving quickly to respond to the good intentions of the government of President Joko Widodo, which established seaweed as a national superior commodity, which in the 2020-2024 RPJMN mentions seaweed as a leading commodity that needs to be developed. Moreover, in the last few months, a number of ministers in the Indonesia Maju Cabinet went directly to review the potential and preparation of the 'seaweed estate' program in Malra, such as Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, and Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan. Therefore, Thaher hopes that the readiness of the Malra Regency Government can further convince the central government and investors to optimize the fisheries and marine potential in the area. Las area developed for seaweed estate reaches 500 hectares (Ha) located on Pulau Naik and Pulau Hoat. The program is estimated to absorb up to 2,000 workers.

"People in Malra really hope that this program from the KKP can be realized because the benefits are very large for creating job opportunities, reducing the poverty rate in Malra which in 2020 will reach 20.57 percent, and encouraging industrial acceleration," he said. Malra Regency is an area in the southeastern part of Maluku Province which geographically has high development potential in the fisheries sector. Based on data from the Malra Regency Government, Malra's position is at the crossing of two fishing areas (WPP), namely WPP714 Banda Sea and WPP718 Arafura Sea, each of which has a sustainable potential of 788,939 tons/year and 2.63 million tons/year. Meanwhile, for seaweed cultivation, Malra also has a potential land of around 8,662 hectares, while the land used is only 846 hectares or the equivalent of only 7 percent. Seaweed cultivation locations are spread out in Hoat Sorbau Bay, Loan-Kelanut Bay, 10 Islands, Southern Kei Besar, and Sathean Bay.

The number of seaweed cultivators currently reaches 2,026 people with a total production of 24,157.91 tons per/year. "Malra's seaweed cultivation is still traditional, and the selling price is also relatively low because the trade system still depends on the collectors who trade it in Surabaya," he said.
