The Minister of Trade Flies to Italy to Take Part in the G20 Meeting, Here is what was Discussed

The G20 Trade and Investment Ministers Meeting was held two days ago. Minister of Trade M Lutfi did not miss the meeting held in Sorrento, Italy. Lutfi and ministers from G20 countries discussed several strategic issues ranging from strengthening the multilateral trading system and reforming the World Trade Organization (WTO), as well as various concrete steps for cooperation in post-pandemic global economic recovery. In the event, Lutfi encouraged G20 countries to prioritize trade as an instrument of global economic recovery.

"That way, export-import activities between countries can return to their original state, so that the multiplier effect of these activities can be felt by each country," Lutfi said in his statement, Wednesday (13/10/2021). The ministers also discussed trade and health, trade and sustainability, trade in services and investment, as well as strengthening trade and investment relations between G20 countries. On the sidelines of the meeting, Lutfi also took the time to hold nine strategic bilateral meetings, some of which were with Swiss President Guy Parmelin, as well as several trade ministers from Saudi Arabia, Britain, India, Turkey, Singapore, New Zealand, South Africa, and the Netherlands.

Lutfi also ensured that Indonesia was ready to carry out the task of the presidency, aka hosting the G20 meeting in 2022. At the G20 meeting next year, Lutfi said he would entertain invited guests with Indonesia's natural wealth. The government's preparation for the G20 event is also said to be more mature with the issuance of Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia (Keppres) Number 12 of 2021 concerning the National Committee for the Organizing of the Indonesian G20 Presidency.
