Bank Indonesia noted that Indonesia's halal food market share reached 13 percent of the global market in the second quarter of 2021. This is the largest in the world. "Indonesia's halal food exports also reached USD 10.36 billion in the second quarter of this year or grew by 46 percent, this is extraordinary growth," said Director of the Department of Economics and Sharia Finance of Bank Indonesia (BI) Bambang Himawan at the Kick Off Online Press Conference. Exhibition ISEF 2021 online in Jakarta, Friday (8/10). Thus, he said the halal food sector became the leading sector in the Indonesian halal industry and managed to rank fourth in the world.
Based on the 2020-2021 State of The Global Islamic Economy (SGIE) report, Indonesia's ranking in the development of the Islamic economic and financial ecosystem in general rose to fourth from fifth in the previous year. According to Bambang, the leading sector in the Indonesian halal industry now tends to be dominated by halal food and fashion. The growth of the leading sector of the halal industry, which consists of halal food, Muslim clothing, and Muslim-friendly tourism, also reached 8.2 percent in the second quarter of this year.
"This growth is higher than the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth of 7.07 percent in the second quarter of 2021," he said. Therefore, he assessed that Indonesia as a country with the largest Muslim population in the world should be able to take advantage of the large market for halal products. Halal industry players in the country must also be able to compete in the market or global stage with other countries.
