Bank Indonesia (BI) encourages the development of the sharia economy through end-to-end integrated agriculture or from upstream to downstream. Executive Director of the BI Department of Economics and Sharia Finance, M Anwar Bashori, said that agriculture has become a leading sector in Indonesia. "Since Covid-19 2020 all sectors have slumped, growth has been minus but the halal food sector and the integrated agriculture sector are positive, until now," he said in the BI Agriculture for Sustainable Growth Webinar, Tuesday (5/10). Anwar said this was a blessing as well as a guide for Indonesia to seriously work on agriculture as the backbone of sustainable economic growth. These characteristics will be exhibited at the Indonesia Sharia Economic Festival (ISEF) which will soon be held as an international event.
The halal food sector will also depend on integrated agriculture which is included in BI's halal value chain development program. Anwar said that this initiative will continue to be developed from upstream to downstream, including in the integrated agriculture sector. "This must be developed end-to-end, for example, later we will also discuss the appropriate financing scheme for the agricultural sector, because it will definitely be different from industrial manufacturing," he said.
Given the Islamic economy is very focused on the process. He hopes that the agricultural sector can get and undergo a fair scheme, beneficial for all parties, so that it will bring benefits. Anwar said the biggest problem in economic transactions so far is the unfair distribution. He hopes that the cooperation of various parties in the agricultural sector and across other sectors can bring economic justice and benefits, as well as help the government to develop a sharia economy.
