The export value of rubber and rubber goods from North Sumatra (North Sumatra) until August 2021 rose 55.99 percent as a result of the increase in the volume and selling price of this commodity. Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of North Sumatra, Syech Suhaimi, in Medan, Sunday, said that in January-August 2020, the export value of rubber and rubber goods amounted to US$676.713 million, while in the same period in 2021 it had reached US$1.082 billion. "There is a large increase in export value, namely 59.99 percent, driven by an increase in the volume and selling price of rubber, especially the SIR20 type," he said.
With a value of 1.082 billion US dollars, the rubber and rubber goods contributed 14.37 percent of the total export value during January-August 2021 which reached 7.533 billion US dollars. Syech explained that the North Sumatran rubber and rubber goods group was the second largest contributor to North Sumatra's total exports in the same period 2021. Secretary of the North Sumatran Indonesian Rubber Company Association (Gapkindo) Edy Irwansyah said the export price of SIR20 rubber continued to rise until September 2021. Export prices rubber is predicted to continue to hold good/high levels until the end of 2021 or in the range of 1.70 US dollars per kg. According to him, the value of North Sumatra's rubber exports should be greater than the achievement of US$1.082 billion as of August.
Edy gave the reason that until now, North Sumatra's rubber exports are still much delayed, due to the difficulty of getting containers due to the Covid-19 pandemic. "The export price of SIR20 rubber does continue to rise due to increased demand during shipment delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic," he also said. The price in July was still at 1.63 US dollars per kg, then rose in August to 1.73 US dollars per kg, and September at around 1.71 US dollars per kg.
