BPS North Sumatra noted that the export value of animal/vegetable fats and oils of North Sumatra Province until August 2021 had reached US$3.258 billion, an increase of 71.69 percent compared to the same period in 2020 of 1.897 billion. "The increase in the export value of animal/vegetable fats and oils was driven by an increase in the volume and selling price of exported goods," said Head of the North Sumatra Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Syech Suhaimi in Medan, Saturday.
He explained, with an export value of US$3.258 billion, the contribution of this category of goods to the total export value of North Sumatra in the first semester of 2021 was 43.25 percent. He said the total value of North Sumatra's exports had reached US$7.533 billion. Executive Secretary of the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (Gapki) of North Sumatra, Darma Sucipto, said the export price of crude palm oil or CPO continues to increase. The price of CPO in September is already in the range of Rp 12,594 from January which is still an average of Rp 9,746 per kilogram. The increase in export prices is due to the increasing trend of demand amid concerns that stocks are running low.
