The Lampung Province Maritime and Fisheries Service stated that the province's fishery exports in 2021 will continue to grow positively even though the Covid-19 pandemic is still ongoing. "The fishery sector has continued to grow in the past two years despite the Covid-19 pandemic," said Head of the Lampung Province Maritime and Fisheries Service Liza Derni in Bandarlampung, Thursday. He said the growth of the fishery sector was reflected in the continued increase in Lampung's fishery export volume in the past year, where in August the export volume reached 1.59 million tons from 1.22 million tons in the previous month. "The volume of fishery exports in 2020 is 17.24 million tons and for the eight months it's around 12.21 million tons, the growth is quite good even though there are still four months left at the end of this year," he said.
According to him, although in 2020 there was a decline in export volume from the previous year which reached 19 thousand tons, it did not significantly affect the fisheries sector in Lampung. "For Lampung, shrimp is the most dominant export fishery commodity, because there are many intensive ponds here, it looks super intensive and people's ponds," he said. The positive growth in the fisheries sector, especially in Lampung fisheries exports, was also stated by the Head of the Lampung Fish Quarantine Agency for Quality Control and Fishery Product Safety (BKIPM), Rusnanto.
According to him, during the January to August period, Lampung's fishery export volume remained stable where the total value of fishery exports reached Rp1.7 trillion, with a total volume of 12,207,748 tons, and an export frequency of 1,117 times. “Fishery exports have been quite good in the last eight months, with the highest export value achieved in June, which reached Rp261 billion,” said Rusnanto. He said that in the January to May period, of the five fishery commodities that are the mainstay of Lampung's exports each year, shrimp became the main commodity with a contribution of export value of Rp. 811 billion, then crab with an export volume of 576 kilograms, and the value reached Rp. 173 billion.
