Realizing the National Fish Barn, Maluku Opens the Doors for Fishery Sector Investment

To support the National Fish Barn Program, the Maluku Provincial Government (Pemprov) offers investment opportunities for domestic and foreign investors. Of the fishery potential that can be extracted, 3.73 million tons have only been exploited, only 14.45 percent. The Head of the Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) of Maluku Province, Suryadi Sabirin, explained that Maluku has many resources that investors can develop. This investment is expected to promote the fishing industry in the area. Investment opportunities offered include the need for additional fishing fleets. Currently, the Maluku Provincial Government is pushing for fisheries management areas in the 715 and 718 regions.

"What we offer is for fishing vessels with 100 GT we need an additional 1,028 units. Then for 300 GT we need around 457 units," he said at the Indonesia Investment Webinar Forum (IIWF), Wednesday (8/9/2021). Maluku provincial government also offered to invest in export vessels for the purposes of the new port. As for the need for export ships, there are as many as 30 units with a capacity of 5,000 GT. "So the port will exist later if 5,000 GT ships with 30 units will also encourage later how the industrial area prepares 5,000 tons per ship multiplied by 30," he said. Maluku Province has a very large potential for the fisheries sector. The potential of fish in the area reaches 4.66 million tons per year. This figure is about 37 percent of the total 12.5 million potential fish in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, from 37 percent of the fishery potential, around 3.73 million tons are allowed to be caught per year. And from 3.73 million tons per year, only about 543 thousand tons can be produced. This means that from the potential that can be extracted, 3.73 million tons have only been captured, only 14.45 percent. Suryadi continued, his party has also prepared land for cultivation, both shrimp and seaweed and some of them. This land provision is provided for investors who are interested in development in some of these sectors. "For the area on Seram Island, which is around 844 hectares, we can encourage shrimp and crabs with a production potential of 31,000 tons per year," he said. Then there is also in North Seram with two places that reach 402 hectares. It is also being prepared with a production capacity of around 14,000 tons per year.
