West Nusa Tenggara plans to build a halal industrial area worth IDR 500 billion with the target of targeting the global halal market. Halal Industrial Estates (KIH) will be built in Sekotong, West Lombok district and in the Tumpak area, Central Lombok district, which is close to Mandalika. The Director of Industrial Regions at the Ministry of Industry, Igantius Warsito, explained that the halal industrial area in NTB will support development in the Eastern Indonesia region. The NTB Provincial Government has also prepared a 200-hectare land in West Lombok which has a clear and clean status, the land belongs to the NTB Provincial Government.

"The halal industrial area provides NTB opportunities for the global Muslim market, in addition, the halal industrial area, if realized, will support the economy of Eastern Indonesia," said Warsito, Wednesday (9/8/2021). The Head of the NTB Industry Service, Nuryanti, explained that with a fund of Rp. 500 billion, the KIH development plan will be carried out in three stages. "First we will deepen the industrial structure to find potential products, after that the area will only be built in 2022 to 2023," explained Nuryanti.

The construction of the KIH is planned to involve the people of NTB, including the supporting areas which will be conceptualized as mosque-based with modern economic schemes such as the use of big data and digital trade platforms. The majority of the population of NTB, who are predominantly Muslim and already have Islamic banking, are considered suitable as hosts for the halal industry. In addition, NTB Small and Medium Industries (IKM) are expected to become players in the KIH so that the presence of a new industrial area in NTB will have a broad economic impact on the community.
