The Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Prepares Investment Opportunity Map for Indonesian Representatives Abroad

The Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM Bahlil Lahadalia said that the Ambassadors and Consul General of Indonesia have an important role in promoting Indonesia's investment opportunities abroad. "In the midst of the uncertainty of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is time for us to carry out internal consolidation. Move forward together to attract foreign direct investment [FDI/foreign investment]," he said during the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tuesday (31/8/2021). Bahlil explained that currently the Ministry of Investment has prepared a map of investment opportunities that can be used as material for Indonesian representatives abroad to promote investment in Indonesia. “To compensate for the penetration of other countries, we create stimuli. One of them is the Investment Opportunity Map. We now have 23 proposals that have patents,” he explained.


Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi explained that there are several opportunities that can be pursued together in the near future. Everything is to encourage investment in the health sector, which is green and environmentally friendly, as well as targeting strategic partners within the framework of the Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF). "In the midst of this pandemic storm, we cannot change the direction of the wind, but we can adjust the sails of the ship so that we can still arrive at our destination, namely Indonesia, which is more developed," he explained. Through this collaboration, the two ministries facilitate the implementation of investment promotion in various international forums as well as full facilitation, assistance, and assistance to investors in solving investment problems both at home and abroad.


Then, recording, reconciliation/exchange, and data processing of Indonesian investments abroad. Lastly, assistance in the implementation of economic diplomacy in the investment sector at various international forums in an effort to increase domestic investment and facilitate Indonesian investment abroad.
The memorandum of understanding also covers the exchange of investment data and information as well as the preparation, updating, and dissemination of investment information, including a guidebook for economic diplomacy in the Indonesian investment sector. There is also human resource capacity development, cost and benefit analysis, setting negotiation priorities, and reviewing international agreements, as well as implementing other activities that are agreed upon and in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations. In its implementation, the two ministries will continue to synergize programs or activities, by utilizing the resources owned by the two ministries. Currently, there are 131 Indonesian representatives abroad under the coordination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and 8 Indonesia Investment Promotion Centers (IIPC) abroad, which are part of Indonesia's investment promotion efforts to potential investors and facilitate Indonesian entrepreneurs doing business abroad.
