Ministry of Transportation Continues to Promote Environmentally Friendly Ports

The Ministry of Transportation cq the Directorate General of Sea Transportation through the Tanjung Priok Main Port Authority (OP) held an Ecoport Forum event on Tuesday (6/7).

The event, which carries the theme “Less Garbage, Better Port And Healthy Life”, was held virtually considering that an emergency Community Activity Restriction (PPKM) was being implemented.

The Director General of Sea Transportation (Dirjen Hubla), R Agus H Purnomo in his opening remarks said that according to the theme, this event was held in order to provide an overview of the implementation of waste management implementation through the Port Waste Management System (PWMS) at Tanjung Priok Port to other ports. and its achievements include problems and solutions. So that later it will create environmentally friendly ports.

"The aim is to implement an integrated PWMS (Port Waste Management System) in other ports so that ship and port participation is greater in order to realize a Green Port," said Director General Agus, Tuesday (6/7/2021).

Director General Agus also expressed his appreciation at this Ecoport Forum event and explained the Minister of Transportation's regulation regarding environmental preservation.

"The Ministry of Transportation expresses its appreciation to the Tanjung Priok Port through the Main Port Authority Office which has consistently held the Ecoport Forum for 3 (three) years in a row which alternately carries the theme of activities to support the creation of GREENPORT," he said.

An environmentally friendly port or often also referred to as an Ecoport, is a port term which in its management and operations pays attention to social, economic and especially environmental aspects, so it is not based solely on business.

On the same occasion, the Head of Tanjung Priok Main OP, Capt. Wisnu Handoko, said that currently the Tanjung Priok port has created a Joint Secretariat (Sekber) in running an environmentally friendly port.

"We have created a Secretariat consisting of the Tanjung Priok Main Port Authority Office, Tanjung Priok Main Harbormaster Office, PT Pelindo II (Persero) Tanjung Priok Branch as well as Government agencies and Stakeholders in the Tanjung Priok Port environment," he said.

He also explained that the Ecoport concept has 4 main pillars that must be guarded not only at Tanjung Priok Port, but at all ports in Indonesia.

“Ecoport has 4 (four) main pillars that must be guarded, namely, compliance with all regulatory requirements in the environmental sector, implementation of environmental management systems, implementation of green initiatives (green initiatives), Stakeholder involvement to support efforts to comply with regulations and implementation of green initiatives in ports” the lid.

For information, according to the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation number PM 51 of 2015 concerning the Operation of Sea Ports which has been amended by the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation Number PM 146 of 2016 (article 19 paragraph 2), it mandates that to ensure and maintain environmental sustainability at the port, the Port Authority must provide facilities prevention of pollution and ensure an environmentally sound port (Ecoport).
